The Grand Bazaar of Esfahan (in Persian:Bazar Bozorg, بازار بزرگ) also known as "Qaysariya Bazaar" (in Persian: بازار قيصريه) is to be taken as a clear-cut example of the urban manifestation in the course of history. Originally, it was constructed in the southeast wing of Jamé Mosque (in Persian: مسجد جامع) and Kohneh Square but various arcades and rooms were later added to it. The history of the Bazaar dates back to the 11th century, but the present remnant dates from the Safavid period during which the Qaysariya Bazaar was constructed in the north wing of Naqsh-e Jahan Square, and was developed as a subtitute for Kohneh Square.
